THE APPROVAL

Mary

The Resurrection is God's Stamp of Approval on the work of Jesus on the Cross. Mary, a woman forbidden to speak as a witness in a Jewish court, is the first witness of the risen Christ. Mary comes down to the Tomb, But to her it feels more like an inverted womb: Swallowing life after death; With no expectation of breathing, of breath.

Mary

Mary comes down to the Tomb,

But to her it feels more like an inverted womb:

Swallowing life after death;

With no expectation of breathing, of breath.

And beyond hope, beyond contradiction,

No sword forbidding, no stone interdiction.

Fighting back fear, holding at bay

Her heart’s fibrillation, she hears them say:

“Why look for the Living here with the dead?

He has risen. Go tell them. That’s what I said.”

Two young men. Too young to be men. Too white

To be anything else than angels. Too bright.

And weeping, coming across an Altogether Other One,

Thinking him the gardener, finding Him the True Vine:

“Do not hold on. I have not yet ascended. This is all new.

I go to my Father, my God. Yours, too.”

Mary returns. First witness to the Risen Christ.

An empty tomb: womb of the Second Birth. Borne the price.

Death swallowed whole in Life. Digested. Disgorged.

Destroyed. All of Eternity impregnated. Reinvested. Reforged.
