    A Poetic Test By Ben

A reflective poem about Ben, Benji, and Benjamin.

    Read the written poem

The river Ben learns my name slowly,
    syllable by silted syllable,
    turning it over stones.

By dusk it has made of me
    something easier to carry.

Notes: Written while contemplating going to the toilet.

    Read the written poem

The birch keeps its own counsel
    under a shawl of rain,
    each silver nerve of bark
    remembering the hand of winter.

I stand beside it, almost speaking,
and learn the discipline of leaves.

Notes: A first draft for a spoken version with low room tone and light field recording.
